This is a very moody painting, with its dark palette and the dead trees scattered throughout the composition. The extreme moodiness of it bestows a sense of mystery on this location, making this piece of art--while highly realistic--also feel magical. I like the way that the artist has captured the reflections in the painting, and has very nearly reversed expectations. Where we would usually expect to see a blue sky and a green cast to the reflection in the water, here the sky is green, but a hint of blue is visible in the reflection.
