Protect Your Art
Your paintings are priceless. Protect them (how to preserve paintings the right way)
Now that you have your favorite painting adorning the walls of your home, you must remember that owning one comes with its own responsibilities.
You will need to take good care of your paintings in order to preserve them for a long time to come.Wide variations in temperature are a strict no when it comes to paintings. Similarly they also need to be protected from variations in humidity levels. It is for these reasons that you should never hang your precious paintings at places where direct sunlight falls. You should also not hang them near air-conditioning vents, near a radiator or a fireplace.
As far as possible you must try and avoid places such as game rooms or dens to hang paintings. This is because smoke can deposit nicotine and unwanted soot over the surface of the paintings.
While choosing lighting for your paintings, it is always preferable to avoid ultraviolet lights. Bad lightning may cause considerable damage to some of the colorants and dyes present in paintings. You will also need to take good care of your paintings, if you intend to put them in storage for some time. They are best preserved in places where the temperature range is between 60-70 degrees. The place where you store them should be dark and dry.
Just in case you are storing a framed painting, make sure that you remove all the picture hooks from it, since it could damage other paintings. A little bit of effort on your part can keep your paintings looking good for years to come.
